This is a beautiful big old clip point bowie knife,
I cant see any makers marks on it anywhere & there is no scabbard,This knife was bought at a Texas gun show (Taylor )a few years ago (2002) from a guy who resides in Kentucky & deals in American civil war items,
The overall length is just under 18 inches,handle is nearly 6.5 inch long,blade is 11.5 inch,cross guard measures 5 inches across,blade is 2 & 3 eights across,Bowie is circa 1850.
Handle is nice & is made up of 2 slabs of timber secured with 3 brass rivets,The very tip of the blade has a little damage as can be seen in images ,
I personally love it ,I think this is a real neat looking piece ,blade is black with great old patina from rust over the last 100 plus years but is still a very solid piece that would clean up,I personally wouldn't clean or alter its appearance in any form,,a good addition to any civil war or edged weapon collection
