Description

b186 Exceptional early Silver hilt and inlaid Dagger, figural silver hilt of a female, silver chain guard & down swept cross guard , engraving to silver hilt & guard, at the start of the blade there is heavy silver inlay which is engraved inline with the iron blade which appears is most likely forged, fullers in the blade to lighten it & for decoration, blade is thick at the hilt & runs narrow towards the tip to allow easier penetration. Blade is also quite wide at the hilt & narrows towards the tip .
I am not sure of the origins of the dagger , European possibly Italian of French or it may be English . No idea & I never bothered to research it , the age i would estimate to be 1700s but it may be earlier or even later into the 1800s, my bet is at least 1700s or earlier.
Its a stunning piece with no damage that was in my own collection
