Japanese Samurai tanto,shin-shinto period,
The lacquer work on this piece is superb,as seen I the images the lacquer on the scabbard depicts a raised up tree trunk with leaves & branches,at the top is a moon, the reverse side of the scabbard has a 4 character signature in red...the back ground is a deep dark green with beautiful flecks of silver & gold.
The blade is perfect .no flaws what so ever. The blade is quite grey but a magnificent hamon can bee seen the entire length of the blade, the hamon is quite wild with small islands of temper floating higher on the blade.
The entire piece is very pretty & is near impossible to fault anywhere.a great addition to any collection ..
The binding is done in a very fine string & is a beautiful binding job. It may well be the original binding ,the fuchi & kashira are polished horn, the ensemble is complete with a gold silk cord.
The tang is mumei .
The cutting edge measures a hair under 8 & a quarter inches, the blade is just under 8 mm wide across the back edge, quite a heavy thick blade,
