Beautiful shinsakato Katana in full Japanese polish mounted in a combo of old & gendaito Koshirae,
Blade length-- 73.1 cm (28.8 inch)
Sori-- 1.5 cm
Width at the hamachi-- 3.1 cm
Width at the kissaki-- 2.3 cm
Signature - Unsyu jyu Kokayashi Sadayoshi saku no
The blade is also dated "a lucky day in February 1971"
As expected the blade is 100% flawless!!
Koshirae-- Tsuka bound in dark blue /green silk,
Fuchi / kashira are gendaito --Both solid silver with raised up design of people,trees & stream etc.
Menuki-- Gendaito Matching coy carp.
Tsuba--Shoami school Antique Iron with silver & gold inlay of a crane in flight with grass below.
Saya-- Perfect black glossy lacquer complete with dark blue / green sageo.
Full blade oshigata done by a professional in Japan,nicely presented on a Japanese scroll.
This smith i am told has died a few years ago, Around 25 years ago his blades were fetching $5000 Aud if you could wait the 2 years to have one made,A friend of mine actually had one made by him 25 years ago ,that's how i know what the cost was back then,any good shinsakato sword smith has a huge waiting period for a custom made blade,Kobayashi Sadayoshi was a well known smith in Shimane prefecture.He studied sword making under Kamashima Tadayoshi & Gassan Sadakazu, for his work he won the Nyusen prize 6 times.This is a lovely blade with fantastic work to be seen throughout ,although it lacks the history of its antique counterparts its still magnificent so if you wanted just one shinsakato you cant go past this one,Its one that is sure to rise in value over the next few years.well below my cost price.
