This is a very attractive early French helmet, some minor damage on one side of the com as shown in images, very minor & typical for a helmet this old. This could be the 1st Empire 1800-1815 but it doesn't have the N for Napoleon wreath or badge, its the same shape as the early ones but Its most likely from around 1830 -1840 period which would make it early 2nd Empire
The red horse hair pony tail has been trimmed up by some idiot for reasons only someone that stupid could comprehend, Still it is quite long & doesn't detract from the helmets overall looks & still displays beautifully, most people wouldn't know its been shortened a bit, There is a very old feather plume on the helmet, its slowing losing feathers but its most likely an old replacement anyway but could be original.
No liner as is quite often the case with helmets this old ( not sure if they even had a liner as such ) it does still retain its large wide leather sweat band which is in good order,
Unusually large rosettes on the sides holding the chin bales, One chin strap has had some gold paint applied to some of the scales, it would clean off without much trouble but I just don't have time to muck about with things like that.
Images best describe the helmet so please ask questions if you have any,
