Good example of European Lobster tail helmet from the Cromwellian English civil war period, It may be a little later into the 1700s
They helmet is in overall very good condition when considering its age, both ear flaps are present, one or both may have replacements leather straps but that is expected for a helmet this old,This example has the articulated lobster tail,All rivets on the helmet are present & are originals,
There are very few dents on the helmet, its is covered in a black substance,,it may be a thin coat of paint or a thin coating of the old tar used back then,I have left it as I found it,Nose bar is original ,4 central ridges run over the top of the helmet bowl complete with the iron loop on the very top ,The only thing i can fault with the helmet is the nose bar turn screw that holds it in place has the thread stripped, it just needs some thin paper or something like that to tighten it up, i will leave that to the new owner.
The English quite often used European helmets for their armies in this period of time..
There are very few of these helmets in Australia & from I see on the ebay site there are quite a few fakes from the UK doing the rounds,However as with ANYTHING i sell I will guarantee this helmet for life to be an original
