This is a magnificent set of armour,Front plate extremely heavy. Some pitting but not detracting .Back plate light weight as should be & also has some minor light pitting. All brass trim in excellent condition.Shoulder chains very good but missing the leather backing, easily replaced .No dings to front & rear plates. Also, both plates have armourers marks & maker's address, etc. Both pieces dated 1831.which is a rarity on its own.As usual the waist strap is missing ,not very many of them have ever survived & it can be easily replaced if so desired,
The helmet is 100 % complete & original.Horse hair is magnificent with original platting in place.Rare to find complete leather liner still attached. Helmet I believe is 1854 pattern and is Officer's issue, also with stamps & makers name on the back of the nickel finished skull, The skull section has a very light coat of what appears to be clear lacquer over it,this could be removed but I personally would leave it to protect the helmet, most of these nickel plated helmets lose plating,I have never seen one as good as this so I guess the lacquer has served its purpose well. The chin scales are excellent but leather backing is missing from one ,you cant notice it but it needs to be mentioned,The feather plume is a custom made replacement as the originals are impossible to find,
This set whilst not perfect is as close as I can get to a perfect set. Imagine this set on display in your office ,It would impress any client or It will make a great decor piece in any home or will display nicely with any collection.list for my original cost price.
